Greetings in the Great Name of Jesus!

Not too many people have a double birthday.

Mhleli Mthethwa is a boy from Zombodze’s youth group. He just started coming to youth group in October. Last week while we were having a Mission of Mercy medical clinic day at the Zombodze CarePoint, Mhleli went in for a routine check-up. Afterwards he went into spiritual counseling where Karl (one of our Children’s Cup interns from Zimbabwe) witnessed Mhleli giving his life to Jesus. This very same day was also Mhleli’s thirteenth birthday! Born and born-again on the same day = double birthday.

We were honored to give a Bible to Mhleli and pray over him this past weekend. Please join us in prayer for this new baby in Christ, that our heavenly Father would care for him and would use us to raise him up in righteousness. Praise God!

Greetings in the Great Name of Jesus!

We want to thank you for your love towards us! Whether it’s your thoughts, prayers, encouraging emails, and/or financial support, we thank all of you for partnering with us in the ways that you do. Thank you!

The YWAM Youth With A Mission team in Swaziland Africa teaching the children a Bible verse

While Kay and I visited with most of you this past May and June, one of our stops was to Minneapolis, MN to visit Kay’s Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base. The Lord led five of the ladies at the base, including one of Kay’s bridesmaids Carolina Lopez, to pray for Swaziland. Not only did they pray, but they came to Swaziland and we hosted them for eight days, taking them to and fro showing them all the great things God is doing in the place. All of us were kept very busy, both getting filled up with God’s presence, and pouring it out unto others.

The YWAM team got to join each of our youth groups in a community serve project where we visited local grandmothers and helped do some work around their houses, including cleaning up the yard, chopping firewood, digging a garbage pit, digging a cooking pit, and blessing them with some food.

The YWAM team also visited three CarePoints (Logoba, Zombodze, and the Brennans’ Mangwaneni), where they did arts and crafts projects with the children, performed dramas and dances, and taught Bible stories. The team was First Aid trained so they got to use their first aid kit quite a few times.

Do you know how long it takes to measure the feet of 350 children one at a time so that they get the right size pair of flip-flops? One hour and forty-five minutes. :-) We distributed about 350 at Logoba and 300 at Zombodze. There’s so much glass and pieces of metal everywhere that the kids are very grateful for these flip-flops. Thank you to the distributor of the flip-flops, “Soles-4-Souls,” and ultimately we thank God!

Greetings in the Name of Jesus!

If you’re a teenager or are a parent to a teenager, then you might know a “Kelly” and not even know it.

In August we met Kelly, a smart 16-year old that everyone in Logoba knew and loved. She naturally had leadership and influence amongst her peers, especially as she started coming to youth group. She was absent a few weeks in September so we went searching for her to see how she’s doing. We discovered that a local shop owner proclaimed himself as her boyfriend.

A few days later we finally found her at her house and greeted her. Kay mentioned how we had met her boyfriend, and she denied having any relationship with him, and laughed at how absurd his claim was. Well we spent some time catching up with her and invited her to youth group.

That Saturday she came to youth group, which was our third talk about relationships and how God had designed marriage. I randomly chose Kelly for an illustration about having a boyfriend or girlfriend. I asked the youth if they were ready to get married at such a young age, and everyone said no. I then asked, “What’s the point of being in a relationship then?” And the answer was for their selfish desires and pleasure. I then asked, “In order to start living a pure life, what has got to happen?” And immediately Kelly proclaimed a liberating, “Separate!”

That illustration hit home for Kelly. That was a Saturday. On Monday when we returned to Logoba, Kelly caught up with Kay and confessed that she lied about not having a boyfriend and that she and the shop owner were lovers. But after Saturday’s illustration she knew she had no intentions on marrying that man, especially because he didn’t even share the same Christian faith, and so she broke it off with him on Sunday and separated. Kelly has repented of her sins, has committed to living a pure life before the Lord, and is saving herself for marriage. Thank You Jesus!

If you know someone who is living an impure lifestyle, please pray for them and reach out to them with the love of Christ. Simply share the truth of God’s Word with them in love and the Holy Spirit will do the rest. Their life is at stake! The sooner you reach out to them, the sooner their burden can be lifted and their guilt, sin, and shame be blotted out!

Greetings in the Name of Jesus!

Thank you for your prayers for traveling mercies to Zimbabwe!

Happy Zimbabwe children at a feeding center

Zimbabwe (from now on “Zim”) has been in the news for political turmoil for the past couple decades, particularly these past few months. There is a huge contrast between Swaziland and Zim. The four of us (Ben Rodgers – Children’s Cup Africa director, Patrick Conti – Youth Director, and Zinty Chasusa – Sponsorship Coordinator) had to stock up on a week’s worth of food, water, and gas in gas cans in South Africa before we crossed the border into Zim. Why? Because none of that is readily available there!

Youth: We arrived on a Friday night and Patrick, Zinty, and I helped lead the youth service at a local church, and they were rockin’ it and on fire for Jesus! We were inspired, considering they live in terrible circumstances.

Men: The next morning Ben, Patrick, and I had a men’s meeting with about thirty men from the church community and talked about men’s issues. Afterwards we had some great prayer ministry – some of the men repented in tears and tight bear-hugs. It was so good to see broken men crying out to God for help in every area of their life.

Mark praying with a Zimbabwean at a men's meeting

Leadership: That night we had a meeting with the local church leadership and Ben asked me if I could give a little word of encouragement regarding leadership. The Lord led me to teach leadership Jesus-style – so I grabbed a basin of water and a towel and kneeled down and washed some guy’s feet. The impact of the illustration showed everyone, me included, that we are here to serve, and not to be served. Regardless of our position in church, business, home, no matter where, we are called to serve just as Christ served. Amen!

Outreach: We visited four local churches and each church was heavily involved in serving and outreaching into the community. We were showing the love of Christ to the prostitute community, feeding the starving children on the streets, and praying with families in their homes who need God.

Money: Zim is a very hard place to live. The Zim dollar, which used to be worth more than the USD in the early 80’s, is now pretty much useless. I have in my pocket right now a 100 billion Zim dollar note that’s not even worth a penny. It used to be worth something only a few months ago – it’s a very tough economy.

Desperate for God: The Zim people are desperate! The ones who have accepted Christ’s love and given their life to Jesus are over-joyous and satisfied in what God is to them – their Creator, Provider, Healer, Restorer, Source of their life and Hope, Future Holder, Past Redeemer, Lover of their soul, and Daily Sustainer. Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus.

Please keep praying for the people of Zim!

Thank you for your kind acts of love, prayers, and financial giving! We thank God for you all the time in our prayers. Thank you and thank You Jesus! :)

Greetings in the Name of Jesus!

It is such a cool thing to be able to invest into the Swazi youth and then have the Swazi youth invest into the Swazi children! This past weekend we saw this coming to pass!

Fifteen youth leaders all across Children’s Cup were chosen to go on a weekend-long mission trip, their first ever! As we invested into them by teaching dramas, songs, games, and guiding them on how to share their testimony, we witnessed amazing growth in these youth leaders. They were able to reach out and minister to about 200 rural Swazi children last Friday night, about 300 last Saturday, and to a rural church of about 200 on Sunday morning. They really got to learn about being a servant to all and what it means to be mission-minded, no matter where you are. It’s all about Jesus!

Picture of the Week: Nomvuyo in perfect form after throwing a dodge ball

Nomvuyo - Logoba Youth Leader throwing a dodgeball

Nomvuyo, one of our very own Logoba youth leaders, got to shine on this trip. She’s only 15 years old, but she’s been proven to accurately translate English to SiSwati, memorize Bible verses within minutes, and lead others in games and dramas - all the while keeping a humble and gentle composure. Please join with us in prayer that Christ would continue to be formed in Nomvuyo, that as we invest into her she would in turn invest the love of Christ into her peers.

Please pray for me (Mark) as I will be travelling to Zimbabwe for seven days visiting the Care Points and churches that are thriving over there – pray that God would increase my vision for what He is doing here in Africa, and pray for safety as well. Thank you!
