Soccer School of Discipleship
Mark and Kay Update
July 1, 2009
Chewstar is a sixteen year old boy who has lost his mom and dad. He lives with his grandma and his younger half-brother. He started coming to our youth group at the Logoba CarePoint last year and was very happy to be in the background all the time. However, when we started having soccer games, he was the shining star. He was very vocal, taking a leadership role I have never seen. He would go all out, risking injury and sacrificing his body in order to get a goal – and he gets a lot of goals!

The Lord is always perfect in meeting us where we are at. Meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, or Paul on the road to Damascus, or Peter casting the fishing nets. They didn’t have to go to church to meet with Jesus, rather, Jesus meets them right where they’re at. This is what happened with Chewstar. I wasn’t connecting with him at the CarePoint youth group, but the Lord started to use the soccer field as a place of ministry.
Through the soccer games and soccer practices, I was able to see Chewstar’s true character rise up – and it was a lot of his flesh! I’ve had to discipline him a few times for his anger, fits of rage, disobedience to the referee, etc. We were led to take him out of a finals game, which cost his team the championship. Both Chewstar and his teammates saw the consequences of his actions.
Our heavenly Father disciplines us because He loves us. Even our earthly fathers discipline us because they love us. Chewstar is now realizing, although a bit slow, that it is because we care for him and his character on the field that we are disciplining him. It was a joy to see him this past week in the soccer game - if only he could compare it to where he was a year ago (a big difference!).

In the Classroom
Because of being double orphaned, he had to stop schooling years ago for lack of resources. This year, we were able to send him back to school, back to the fourth grade, and he’s doing very well (ranked 9 out of 37 in his class)! We are very proud of him, both in his accomplishments on the field and off. Please pray for Chewstar’s continued growth and molding into a man of Godly character. Many boys are looking up to him as a role model – we’re praying he’s looking up to God.
Thank you for being there for us!

Youth, Unity, & Pictures
Mark and Kay Update

Lots of things are happening, so here we go…
“The Church Has Left the Building” On Saturday, both our youth groups met up with the Bride of Christ church youth and did a serve event in an impoverished community, handing out gifts and telling people that Jesus loved them. Many accepted the gift while some rejected the giver. The following day the church experienced a growth in attendance and the kingdom of God welcomed ten more saved souls! Read all about this update (pictures included) on Kay’s parents’ web site: Missions in Africa.
Unity is an amazing thing! We’ve been praying for unity at our Logoba CarePoint amongst the five volunteer cooks, two facilitators, and our Mission of Mercy rep. It is only by the grace of God that we were able to have all of them over for dinner at our house last night, and it was a wonderful picture of unity. Everyone was loving on everyone, humility was in the air, and everyone acknowledged that this special bond was an act of God. Thank you Jesus!
40 Days of Prayer Do you remember last year’s 40 days of prayer for the children from August 1st through September 9th? Well, it’s coming up soon, and we’re planning a “drive” for how you can participate in ministering to the children in a real and practical way. More details as the time gets closer.
Pictures We’ve uploaded our pictures of our USA visit this year. Please check them out on Picasa Web: 2009 USA Visit Pictures on Picasa Web
Swazi Youth Workers Please pray for direction, discernment, and funding as we are looking into creating a couple job positions for Children’s Cup Swazi youth staff. Our vision is that the youth groups we’ve started here would be handed over to the locals and would continue to grow and bear fruit. Your prayers in this next step are huge, so thank you for helping us in this.
Thank you for your partnership with us in ministering to the Swazi people. Isn’t it such a blessing to be able to minister to anyone in the whole world via God? Praise God!
In Christ’s Love,

Fruit of Repentance
Mark and Kay Update
June 10, 2009
Every class has a class clown. And so does every youth group. At our Logoba youth group, his name is Siyabonga (literally “thank you”, Siya for short). He’s been coming to our youth group for over a year and our relationship with him has been growing over time. He’s always got a joke, a funny facial/body expression, and he does great voice impressions. He’s a great kid to have around, and he’s greatly missed when he’s absent. That’s Siya (or so we thought).
Two weeks ago Siya came to me privately and confessed that he had stolen a pair of soccer shorts from the soccer game that we had just played a couple days prior. I was in shock that he would actually return something that I never knew was missing. I didn’t know what to say other than thank you.

Then, the following week during youth group we usually have a time of sharing testimonies of how God has answered our prayers. For the most part, not too many people say anything, let alone take center stage and confess the sin of stealing and receiving prayer at a church service and proclaiming to be a changed man. That’s what Siya did! He even confessed to stealing money from his own mom, which was huge because many kids steal from their own households. By his confession, I’m sure the Lord was working on the hearts of others as well.
Siya not only confessed his sin privately to me, but publicly to his church and his youth group. He not only confessed but showed fruit of repentance by returning things he had stolen. Thank you God for the conviction and ministry of the Holy Spirit in Siya’s life and the fruit of repentance!
Please pray for more fruit in the lives of the people that God has placed under our care. Thank you for your prayers and your support! May God bless you.

We arrived with Eucharistia!
Here’s a Greek word lesson for you:
Eucharistia: gratitude; actually grateful language to God, as an act of worship, thankfulness, giving of thanks.
“How we thank God for you! Because of you we have great joy as we enter God’s presence.” (1 Thes 3:9 NLT)
That’s exactly what we are experiencing right now – thanksgiving and gratitude towards God for all of you! Thank you for making our USA visit such a joy with great fellowship, meal times, creating memories, generous giving, heart-felt prayers, and just seeing you face to face.
We arrived safely in Swaziland with all of our luggage intact – praise God!

As we get into gear to serve the Lord in this place, please be praying for us that we would truly live by Romans 12:11 (NLT) – “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”
Thank you! Eucharistia!
